Garda Memorial Day took place on Saturday, 17th May, in glorious sunshine at Dublin Castle. The ceremony paid tribute to the 90 members of An Garda Síochána who gave their lives in the line of duty, serving and protecting the people of Ireland.
This year’s commemoration was particularly poignant, taking place just one day after the funeral of the late Garda Kevin Flatley. His recent and tragic passing was fresh in the minds and hearts of all those gathered.
The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) was represented by General Secretary, Ronan Clogher and AGSI Industrial Relations Officer, Kevin Sexton. The family of the late Garda Flatley, his parents Michael and Breda, and his brother John, were also in attendance.

The Order of Ceremony included:
Arrival of the Minister for Justice
Ministerial Salute performed by the Band of An Garda Síochána
Inspection of the Guard of Honour by the Minister for Justice
Liturgical Ceremony celebrated by Father Joe Kennedy and Archdeacon David Pierpoint
Prayers and reflections led by members of the Interfaith Forum
Wreath-Laying Ceremony in honour of the fallen
The ceremony was a solemn and dignified reminder of the sacrifice made by those who serve, and the enduring gratitude of a nation that will never forget.
