A delegation from AGSI met with the Minister for Justice & Equality, Frances Fitzgerald. Following a one-hour meeting our delegation was very happy with how the Minister received us.
She listened and appeared to understand our concerns. She undertook to arrange a meeting with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform as soon as possible. The purpose of this meeting is to allow us explain our concerns and get clarity on the FEMPI Bill 2015 as drafted for our Association, considering that we are not affiliated to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU).
Our delegation explained to the Minister that we had a short window of opportunity to deal with this matter. We asked the Minister if she would meet us again following our meeting with DPER and she agreed she would.
It is our intention to pursue this matter at the highest level within Government with a view to getting a resolution for our members.
