AGSI Statement on Retirement of Garda Commissioner
“Commissioner O’Sullivan initiated reform, but we need to prioritise operational transformation”
The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has paid tribute to the Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan on the announcement of her retirement following a three-year tenure.Speaking this evening, AGSI General Secretary, John Jacob said Commissioner O’Sullivan initiated reform in An Garda Síochána which was long overdue but operational transformation remains the priority.“We had a good working relationship with the Commissioner.“I would like to pay tribute to Commissioner O’Sullivan who displayed great character and determination in the face of a series of controversies affecting our organisation and her staff.“We would like to see operational transformation prioritised by her successor and we look forward to working with him or her when appointed by The Policing Authority.“We would like to thank Commissioner O’Sullivan for working with AGSI members in a professional and open manner. We would also like to wish her and her family well in her retirement.”ENDS
