As the midnight hour stuck on the 26th of November 2015 Sergeant Dominic Flynn retired from An Garda Síochána after 40 years of dedicated service.
Dominic was the Branch Secretary of the Westmeath Branch of AGSI and represented his colleagues to the highest standard at all times. He was well respected by Garda Management which worked well for him in his endeavours to solve an issue on behalf of a colleague. He had a policy don’t go to solve a problem unless you a solution. He worked earnestly behind the scene on welfare issues for members which goes to show the honourable person he is.
Over his career he filled many roles Continuous Professional Development, Traffic Corps to mention but a few. He was particular in very thing he did and keeping accurate and timely records was important to him and was very much appreciated by his superiors and everyone at AGSI HQ.
Dominic was always in good form he enjoyed life and this was obvious when you would hear him whistle in the early morning as he went about his business in the station. He entertained us on night recalling his entry into An Garda Síochána and his career to date. He also added in a joke of two with stories about a Bishop and novice nun, a guy with a magic watch with which he could foretell the future and a specially trained dog much to the enjoyment of everyone
A retirement function was held in his honour on Thursday 5th November in the Annebrook Hotel, Mullingar which was attended by colleagues and friends. Chief Superintendent Lorraine Wheatley thanked Dominic for his loyal and dedicated service. She said he was an inspiration to other Sergeants and Gardai in the manner in which he dealt with people and timely fashion in which he attended to his duties.
We wish Dominic and his family every success, good health and happiness for the future.
