As you know negotiations to form the next Government are still continuing between Fine Gael and the Independent TD’s. So too is AGSI’s campaign to maintain pressure on this new Government and the parties and people who will support it.
To this end I must again reiterate my call for as much support from your Branch as possible on our first day of action when we march on the Dail.
It is now looking like Government may be formed early next week, perhaps with a vote for a new Taoiseach taking place on Tuesday or Wednesday. The day following the Taoiseach’s election, the Dáíl will sit for its first session and it is AGSI’s intention to march that day.
We will be in touch when it is clear what the calendar of events are. Please note that we will have short notice and consequently you will be asked to work even harder to organise a large turnout from your Branch.
Please continue to listen to the news and watch your e-mail for notification from AGSI of our plans.
I am confident that you are monitoring the situation as are the National Executive and I am hopeful that we can muster as many of our colleagues as possible to support our march.
I wrote to the GRA’s Acting General Secretary, John Healy, inviting him to notify his members of our march and to invite any of those that would like to attend to come along. Perhaps you might spread the word among the GRA members within your area that they are entirely welcome. We are after all fighting for the same thing in this campaign. I also wrote to the General Secretary of the Retired Members Association and hopefully they will be in a position to support our march as well.
Please refer to the previous correspondence for full details relating to our march, those details remain the same. All we need now is a date for our march and a good turnout.
I will be in touch in due course.
Kind Regards,
John Jacob
General Secretary
AGSI
