There was a lot of correspondence to AGSI, and between members, regarding the severance option proposed in the report from the Commission on the Future of Policing.
Because of the speculation and the interest, AGSI thought it important to seek clarification from Garda management and we wrote to the Executive Director of HR & PD specifically on this matter.
In Mr. Barrett’s response he pointed out that the report was published just last week, and will take some time to weigh and consider. He went on to say that he hoped:
“In the coming weeks and months, as matters addressed by the report are carefully considered by government and its principal departments and as implementation is costed and prioritised, some clarity may emerge in the matter you raise.
“Until then, we can collaboratively keep this matter under review.”
It is clearly evident from this correspondence that there is currently no document with Garda management outlining the details of the severance option that may be made available to members of An Garda Síochána.
AGSI will advise you as soon as we become aware of any proposal for members in this regard.
Kind Regards,
John Jacob,
General Secretary.
