Each year the Dún Laoghaire Chess Club members compete for the Sergeant John Carroll Perpetual Trophy in the town he served as a Community Sergeant for many years. Sergeant Carroll was one of the first, if not the first, Community Sergeant appointed in the country.This being the tenth anniversary of John’s passing saw the club holding a major function in the club’s home – The Eblana Community Club which is located in the middle of Dún Laoghaire town centre.
