Members of the National Executive of AGSI have met with Minister for Justice Alan Shatter (Thursday 18th October) on proposed cuts in allowances.
The General Secreatary reminded the Minister that “allowances are core pay and are not up for negotiation.”
The meeting with the Minister was arranged to discuss several motions from Conference which are priority for members.
While the Minister was sympathetic to the arguments presented by the AGSI, he reminded the delegation that “the financial state of the country required immediate remedial action and that further cuts would be made to the Garda budget in 2013 and 2014.”
Seperately the Minister detailed plans to make money available for new Garda vehicles which was warmly welcomed by the AGSI National Executive.
