The National Executive met today to discuss the revised proposals contained in the Garda sectoral aspect of the Lansdowne Road Agreement (LRA). This follows in-depth negotiations with Government officials and Garda management over the last number of weeks.
Our discussions were extensive and we are now in a position to let you know that we will be issuing a fresh ballot to the membership in early August on the revised proposals.
Government has also agreed to suspend the implementation of the FEMPI legislation in relation to the incremental freezes due to come into effect on July 1st, pending the results of the ballot.
The President, National Executive and Secretariat of the AGSI will launch a roadshow and we will visit over 20 locations to present the revised proposals to our members. We would encourage all members to attend these information seminars so you can inform yourself of the proposal being presented in the revised LRA.
We will be recommending a yes vote in the ballot based on a commitment by Government and Garda management that the review of An Garda Siochana will commence immediately and be completed within six months.
We have received assurance that future pay negotiating rights plus the contents of the European Social Rights Committee decision will all be dealt with in the review. These matters are of crucial importance to members and your future remuneration.
Read our media statement that we issued this afternoon concerning our position. If you are contacted by any media organisation please contact Head Office or Joanne Sweeney-Burke (087 6237373) immediately who will direct the media to ourselves. We ask that you do not comment on this in the media at a local level.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries on this matter.
