Bravery Award for former AGSI President’s Son

0

On Friday 1st November Garda James Hanley of Ennis Garda Station was one of five Gardai to be awarded The National Bravery Award for deeds of bravery. They were honoured by Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett at a ceremony in Farmleigh House.

On January 13th 2013 Garda James Hanley and a colleague responded to a 999 call that a woman was in the River Fergus. On arrival at the location Garda Hanley entered the river in very strong currents and rescued the woman bringing her to the riverbank where he was assisted by his colleague and some onlookers. The woman made a full recovery.

Garda James Hanley is the son of former AGSI President Dan Hanley who retired from An Garda Siochana on the 31st December 2011.

Dan and his wife Margo expressed their pride at their son’s award.
