“We live in a time where significant changes are happening within An Garda Síochána, where members now have to fight for core pay and fair working conditions.”
John Redmond, newly appointed General Secretary of the AGSI was speaking ahead of a meeting with Justice Minister Alan Shatter this week to discuss proposed allowance cuts.
John Redmond held the position of Deputy General Secretary from 2003 to 2012 and takes over from Joe Dirwan who retired from AGSI and An Garda Síochána earlier this month.
John takes on the position at a time of significant change with proposed allowance cuts, station closures and a shortage of personnel and resources key concerns for members. However, he has never side-stepped from a challenge having held the Deputy General Secretary position for nine years.
