“80 further stations closures by the end of 2012 is an unpalatable move for our members.” General Secretary of the AGSI John Redmond was speaking on RTE Radio 1’s Drivetime Show this evening.
Media reports that further station closures will continue to be implemented by Commissioner Callanan has caused serious concern among AGSI members.
“We cannot police on a part-time basis, community clinics is not how policiing is carried out. Our members have to hear about sustained cuts and stations closures in media reports and this is unhelpful.”
John Redmond says that AGSI are committed to change doing more with less, and he says “we have pro-actively worked within the remit of the Croke Park agreement to deliver increased working hours, new rosters and reduced resources.”
However, he expressed concern that the Commissioner and Garda Management are continuing to make significant decisions without consulting his members.
“We continually ask Garda Management to consult with us, yet we continue to hear changes to our working practices second-hand from media reports.”
