Deducations From Subs: St. Patrick’s Day & Easter Sunday

On Monday the 4th April an AGSI delegation met Deputy Commissioner Twomey to highlight issues that emerged during the planning and implementation of the policing plan for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and Easter 1916/2016 Commemorations. One matter that that was a concern which needed an immediate response related to deductions from subsistence where meals were not provided.

Deputy Commissioner Twomey agreed that in some situations second meal reliefs were not provided and in some rare cases members received no meals at all. The Deputy was disappointed to hear this and undertook to try and establish how this happened.

The Deputy contacted the AGSI this morning to inform us that members will not have any deduction made from their subsistence where they received no meal or did not receive a second meal relief. Members who did not get a meal or did not receive a second meal break should indicate this fact when making their sub claim.

It would help administer the process if members included where they were assigned for meals and the fact that they did not receive any, or a second meal break, (as the case may be) on their claim form. Management will continue to make the deductions from subsistence where members received both meal breaks.

The other matters relating to the short notice provided to members in relation to changes in shifts, poor selection of briefing venues and poor information in advance of, and at briefings, have been taken away by the Deputy for examination.

This was not a formal de-brief and AGSI look forward to that taking place and engaging in it when it does.
