AGSI HQ Branch Host “Wellness Wake-Up”
The AGSI Headquarters Branch hosted a wellness event last week, which was very well attended. The National Executive wish to thank the HQ Branch Committee, and in particular Branch Secretary Rory Nestor for organising this event.
On Friday, 14th November – the same day as the orange wind and rain warning – AGSI Headquarters Branch held an event focused on health and wellness.
Despite the wind and the rain, there was great attendance at the event, with few empty seats in the Officers Club for many of the talks. Personnel from the Health and Wellbeing Office spoke on the broad range of services that they provide as well as their future plans as part of the Health & Wellbeing Strategy 2026 – 2030.
There was also a focus on matters such as the KOPS Wellbeing APP, Lena (by Inspire) 24/7 Counselling and the Psychological Support Programme. Grounding techniques were discussed, and breathing exercises were demonstrated.
Sergeant Claire Malone spoke about the Employee Assistance Service, and its role in responding to, supporting, and assisting personnel experiencing work and personal difficulties. Inspector Alan Roughneen, a Mental Health First Aid Facilitator, spoke about the MHFA course, and encouraged those in attendance, who had not yet done so, to avail of the course.
There was a talk on the impact of shift work and related sleep strategies by Orla Healy, Occupational Health Nurse Manager, and an impactful keynote address was delivered on the importance of diet and nutrition by Noreen Roche. Noreen is a registered dietician who works with the Kilkenny Senior Hurling and Camogie Team, as well as being a practitioner in Tallaght University Hospital.
The morning also included an inspiring real-life story of resilience in the face of adversity from Life Coach and Wellbeing Advocate Jenny McCarthy.
Well done to all involved.
