January is a very busy month for the Secretariat as well at the National Executive Committee as they try to cover as many Branch AGMs during the month as well as attending to their normal duties as Sergeants and Inspectors.
As we draw close to end of the Branch Annual General Meetings (AGM) throughout the country we give you a flavour of the topical issues that have been discussed during the month. Thank you to all Branch Secretaries and their Committees for organising the AGM’s and for hosting the President, General Secretary and members of the National Executive.

Wicklow Branch Secretary Members along with AGSI representatives
There was great debate and as always the feedback from our local Branches feeds into the work of the National Executive throughout 2018, so make no mistake every comment and query is taken on board.- Safety and welfare issues
- Lack of training for drivers and also in relation to dealing with incidents on motorways
- Safety plan for each section of the Garda Síochána.
- Shortage of personnel
- Hybrid Policing and the knock on effect for Sergeants and Inspectors
- Legal Aid Advocates – Members of Sergeant rank are reminded that they should be very familiar with Section 3.8 of the Garda Síochána Act on Leadership and Responsibilities. Many of the disciplinary actions being taken against Sergeants relates to their failure to adequately supervise the Gardai. If you see something wrong take action or you inaction could land you in trouble.
- Code of Ethics
- Divisional Policing Model
